From Seed To Harvest

Growing Fresh Greens at Home.

We started with a flock of sheep and an open field in Central Vermont. In 2012, the summer we bought the land that would become Good Heart Farmstead, my cousin came to visit, looked at the nine open acres and asked, “Who’s going to mow all this?”

“They have night school, so I get to work a full 8-hour day beforehand. I can pay my bills and go to school and not have to worry about giving 100% to one or the other.”

A Tale Of Two Portlands

Uniquely different yet connected, find out about the other Portland.

At a dinner party in 1845, an argument arose between two men, Francis Pettygrove and Asa Lovejoy. Co-founders of a new settlement on the west bank of the Oregon Country’s Willamette River known as “The Clearing,” each man wanted to name the settlement after his respective hometown. Pettygrove was from Boston, Massachusetts, and Lovejoy from Portland, Maine. They settled their disagreement with a coin toss, which Lovejoy won, and named the new town Portland, Oregon.

Camel Finds Water: Behind the Build

Relying on little more than intuition and a rough sketch, our friend Trevor Gordon went to work restoring an abandoned 20' fishing vessel.

In May of 2018, I walked through a field of mustard seed up to my chest, close to my home in the Santa Barbara, CA harbor. In the middle of the field sat a 20’ broken up old fishing vessel, hardly visible below the weeds.
